I just stumbled upon this really good news about the Ministry of Telecommunications’ plan to upgrade the internet infrastructure by using fiber-optic cables to connect Ogero switching centers to residential and business premises.
The current infrastructures utilizes a fiber-optic network to connect centers together but relies on old copper wires to carry out internet data to the subscribers. The problem with these old wires is that they can handle transferring a maximum of 8Mbps depending on how close to the switching center you live. That’s why 1/3 of internet users in Lebanon cannot get more than 2Mbps to their homes since they simply live too far away from a central office!
The upgrade project will take 5 years to finish as per minister Harb and should allow internet speed to reach 100Mbps. So until that time, expect to encounter a lot of digging around the streets and just pray for the whole thing to finish on time without any major interruption.
I am wondering how much time it will take to consume the 50GB quota..
Quotas should definitely not remain the same!
we shouldn’t have quotas in the 1st place!
ISPs pay just for bandwith and not amount of data transferred, so yes they should stop being greedy and eliminate this silly quota thing.
This is like the third time they promise it. Well, it still won’t hurt to believe it will happen.
Hahahaa this is a joke. The history of fiber optics with MoT is always related to politics. Take the example the current fiber infrastructure that was installed in most areas in Beirut in 2011 by Sehnaoui; everything is in place except one thing: connecting then inside Ogero. You guys remeber the fte7l7anafye campaign? Yeah its about trying to get ogero to get 3 hours worth of work done by connecting the end of the fiber. Ogero did not address multiple inquiries about this issue after facing pressure from certain mafia leaders, but simply stated “even if we connect this fiber, the internet will not be faster in lebanon.”
5 year project? Since Sehnaoiu was removed and Harb “appointed” by our Sect Gods we’ve dropped 22 places on the global internet speed chart. Srilanka, afghanistan, palestine, nepal, and senegal have faster speeds than us. I’ve been blogging about this for years.
I’m all for optimism and #Ontornet, but seriously LLB get a grip on reality.
