18 years old “wazawiz” can now vote… plain stupid!
At the age of 18, students are merely wise enough to make a good choice about their major in the university, how do you expect them to make a “good” political choice?
Moreover, a lot of fights are erupting at some universities nowadays, especially in USJ Huvelin, but they’re never mentioned in the news. Imagine what would happen in the next election (2013) when students feel they have more “authority”.
I don’t think there is any difference between 21 and 18 or even 16 when it comes to intelligence, knowledge and common sense. On another note, I think there are two issues which know not age and those would be: matters of the heart and politics. In most cases, they come from an irrational place.
In this case, especially in Lebanon, the vote of an 18 year old could prove to be more well-thought, weighed-out and better-studied than that of a 50 year old’s.
What and who are those wazawez a mirror of? Is it not those who are assumedly much older than them in years, more experienced and much wiser? Our, supposedly, role models? Tfeh.
In this country, it’s hit and hope. You can’t really tell who’s intelligent and wise from just age lol Sometimes, I think my 5 year old cousin sounds wiser than all the older people living on my street.
I say why not. Let them vote. Too bad they won’t be any time soon.
I think they should make the voting age 68!

Truth is that you can influence freshmen (18yo) much faster and easier than graduates.
Take the Lebanese Forces for example, for some reason they can influence 18yo VERY easily. In 3-4 years time, you see the same people converting to some other party.
As for the wazawez drifting their 1985 BMW 325 and doing stunts with their motorcycles, they’re a mirror of their own stupidity, which made wazawez out of them!
I do agree however that intelligence has nothing to do with age, some times young people prove they are wiser, but unfortunately some rules do not accept exceptions.

Rami,
unless you provide me with serious statistics and scientific studies, I cannot say I agree with you. I see 50 year olds as influenced and as blindly led, if not worse, as an 18 year old. But, that’s just what I see. And what you see and what I see don’t necessarily have to meet.
This would be a good idea for some serious hardcore statistics. Like a proper study by respected academics and scientists.
If 18 is old enough to enlist in the army then it should be old enough to participate in national elections… Age ain’t nothing but a number
