On my way to work today, I saw this huge ad at City Mall Dora, it says “Jordan is more beautiful”. Whoever considered posting this in Lebanon should have thought of it twice, because it is both rude and ugly.
Seriously, in what exactly is Jordan better?! L7a22 3layyeh yimkin, I’m not following Amman’s nightlife news these days!!
Now I don’t deny that my first impression was, how can they do this? But perhaps we have an exchange thingie, they put ads about Jordan in Lebanon and we put ad about Lebanon in Jordan. Am sure they don’t mean Jordan is more beautiful than Lebanon, perhaps they mean a7la than other countries? I donno
Liliane may have a point.
BUT, still. An ad for Jordan does not necessarily need to contain the following: ‘al-ordon a7la’. It carries double meanings and I find it somewhat offensive to find this ad with this exact wording in Lebanon.. And just like Rami said, bishou a7la?
I’ll try this comment again, and “supper brief”. The first long image is where the Pope Confirmed the Baptism of Jesus, and not the other debated area in which is in Israel. So, probably the target audience are Lebanese… If this Ad stays after July 15th till August, than for sure the target Audience are the Tourists in Lebanon (the Arabic speaking Tourists at least).
Did they really have to add that word “A7la”? – The Nerve?!
inno eh that was my first impression, but I’ve been trying not to jump into conclusions hastily, perhaps this time I should lol…
but seriously, there should be a way to find out.
I agree that Liliane may have a point here, “Jordan a7la” could be their slogan in general, however the first thing that came to my mind (and lot of other people) when I saw the ad is “ordon a7la min libnein”, so I tend to agree more with theFool.
did anyone of u visit Jordan, cuz i guess if u did u will know why e ordon a7la
Okay, it is true that when I read it in Lebanon it suggests that Jordan is more beautiful and I feel a bit offended (other way around if an add in Jordan said : libnan ahla, people in Jordan would be offended as well).Maybe one should find out who put the add up, Jordaninan Embassy, Ministry of Tourism ..etc … and inform them of the pervceived rudness! The English language might not be as simple as they think …I am sure no one meant to offend any side ! I know Jordan, and Libnan ahla akid …but at the end we are all the Levant and shouldn’t do or let anything segregate us more than we already are …
@Lara
Lara you are right, people are over-thinking the issue and it is causing segregation. I’ve been to Jordan and I think it is beautiful, the ruins are amazing and I had no problem with the people there, I understand it might seem rude in other countries, and I’m sure that a unified middle east would appreciate this comment instead of feeling offended. Is it so wrong to have pride in one’s country? I mean, Jordanians do watch Lebanese TV and don’t get mad about the pride Lebnan exhibits in its programs, because all countries and their people have the right to be proud of their culture and history. So if Jordanians feel that Jordan is nicer, I think they have the right to.
I think they meant ‘al urdon ahla min Israel’ … so do not get offended, just understand …. Lebnein kteer helwei … we all know … all lebanese should relax
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That was one persons opinion trying to convince others. Before jumping to conclusions each individual should visit both places and then make your own comments. You know that many Lebanese have not visited their own country as tourists, and I believe the same falls for the Jordanians in their country. So mellow down everyone. Beauty is in abundance, everywhere.
YOU PPL ARE FREAKIN RETARDED. It was an advert and its the same as saying al 2ordon awalan, were not trying to say its before lebanon but its just a bloody slogan. So please, go get a fucking life and stoop blogging about insignificant shit thats not gona change anything in the world. And stop calling it the LEVANT, if u had any sense of arabic pride, u wud give it a slightly more arabic oriented name. U ppl are sad
Please – look around you – what is so beautiful about Lebanon?
All the rubbish in the streets, parks and mountains? Ever heard of rubbish bins or bags???
Or perhaps all the diesel fumes in the air?
Or maybe it’s the people who try to cheat tourists and locals at every opportunity?
Or maybe it’s the skyscrapers which stand where ancient ruins were bulldozed for “progress”?
No – don’t tell me – it’s the quarries …. or could it be the Coca Cola vending machine in the middle of the carbon-covered ruins of Baalbek?
Or the foul manners of those who swear and spit in the streets?
Lebanon – beautiful????? Once upon a time …
Hi,
I am from Jordan, and frankly i was surprised to find those ads in Beirut when i first came here last year, not that Jordan is or not a7la; its that, much of us – Jordanians – barely visited anywhere in Jordan except maybe the dead sea, so the Ministry of Tourism started the Al Ordon A7la campaign locally initially targeting Jordanians to support local tourism, obviously they think its working so they took it further!
for me, both Countries are beautiful! each has an upper side at something. and Rami, the ad. is not targeted to Night life loving tourists, Lebanon triumphs int hat category, and i guess the background of the ad. says it all! so i guess you should think twice before you post next time
FYI Jordan gets more international tourists that Lebanon … hmm i guess that has got to mean something !
