While walking in Hamra, the graffiti and what people post on the walls can’t but grab your attention! I took the photos below in a less than a 15 minutes walk there.
I think this one is drawn by this blogger.
No idea why these ones were posted…
She was my best friend when I was a kid! It turned out she made a comeback in December 2009.
Lebanon, the land of Lebsians!
Gives a new meaning to being preganant…
As if something is going to change… Anyway you can check their website here.
I saw this one on the wall of Walimat Warde’s old location (the new location is few meters away)
… still someone is missing Warde, or probably the coziness of the old location.
… unfortunately Walimat Warde’s old building is going to be destroyed and a new building will replace it.
Another old building being demolished in Hamra’s main street.
We should do something about those destructions. The frequency is only intensifying and all our gems are being brought down.
I second @eebz, this simply sad!
The ‘ba3ed na2es’ posters is (I think) about what is usually said to women/girls when they try to do something or suggest an idea. It’s feminism posters.
Been meaning to get photos of all the Graffiti in lebanon, its a wonderful idea, nice selection , i love your comments too – i think that the graffiti is someone wanting to be heard, we should give them voices 🙂
I love the first painting by Ella, thanks for sharing her blog.
She has another painting down rue Abd El-Aziz, facing the Golden Tulip Hotel.
Love how you approached this and you’re own interpretations along the way. The first graffiti is eerily intriguing. Where was that taken?
How I miss Hamra…
I am confused about Walimeh… is this recent? And, they’re saying they will move it somewhere near the old location, but any ideas about where exactly?
Posh: the building got sold early last year and is set to be demolished sometime this year. Walimat have moved down one building into the Marble Tower hotel [where the Pickwick pub used to be], just round the corner where their old spot was.
Thank you all for your comments!
@Lorena
The first photos was taken in the small street facing the entrance of Graffiti lounge.
@Posh
I don’t know since when Walimet wardeh has moved, but it is now in the ground floor of a building that’s adjacent to the old location, just a few meters away.
@Zena
Loved your blog!
really nice overview of hamra walls rami!
and i’m very sad for walimat building and all those destructions all over beirut!
BTW they painted over the first graffiti during the third day of Hamra festival! That really annoyed me! I used to love that one by ella!! *Sigh*
I guess that’s street art! nothing can stay forever in the streets!!
oh and can I save it on my desktop?? I had a pic for it but it’s low resolution! =D
oh bad news! Every now and then I go to Graffiti (the restaurant) and everytime I go there I make sure to pass by that graffiti..
And you sure can save it!
