On Lebanese parliament members and their purchasing power

I was on my way to work this morning when I saw this Porsche Panamera with a parliamentary plate number.

Porsche Panamera

While members of the Lebanese parliament can afford such luxury car (priced at around $150,000?) from the salary that they work “really hard” to earn at the end of each month from the taxes we pay for (especially on gas and phone bills), the average employee in Lebanon can hardly afford a Kia Pianto, and of course cries his heart out when visiting Lebanon Motor Show.

    It’s 180’000 USD with “Goumrouk”.

I agree with you Rami. Something is wrong when you have people barely making ends meet, and then you see parliamentarian who represents them in such a non-necessary luxury car… This is unacceptable, that parliamentarian barely represents 5% of Lebanon’s population.

There is only one person to blame for the politicians we elect; ourselves!

keep in mind of course that this is most likely one of many equally priced cars owned by said politician.

Talkinhg more about the car itself, I must say, it is an ugly car. My neighbour got one a few months ago in dark brown / Bordeaux. Its just ugly.

I am not happy with the new direction Porsche is taking, I was upset to see the Cayenne SUV and then now a salon car, that just seals it for me; Porsche has lost the legendary PORSCHE factor. Its no longer got that identity, they had for decades. In my opinion.

If you want to buy a Porsche, you ought to by a proper Porsche..

Rami..since I’ve been living here, (4 months now)..I’ve been wondering about something..

    HOW DO PEOPLE DO IT?

How are the Lebanese affording life here? Price wise, life here is comparable, if not more expensive than life in the States..I really think that there needs to be some legislation put in place to regulate the wage rate and salaries in Lebanon..

It’s not like businesses aren’t making money! How do business owners justify paying so little, and why do the Lebanese acquiesce to such maltreatment?

As a woman with no family here..I don’t see how a young person can be expected to make a life for themselves independent of their families. And what if their families can’t be depended on? What if they can’t afford to send their children to LAU or AUB..will their child have any future? Any hope?

The Renault 12 is “murafa2” (ESCORT)

These politicians should be held responsible, they are paid salaries for not doing their legislative roles, and please note they are paid forever!, till they die and even their families inherit their salaries!!!

And none of them look to the benefit of the citizen, where is their health care and retirement plans, and minimum wages..

    Its an unbearable country!!!
