I was complaining to a friend of mine a while ago that wherever you plan to buy an apartment in Beirut, and no matter how good your view over the sea or the mountains might be, it will always be ruined with the ugly rooftops all around you! They’re all crowded with rusty water tanks, satellite dishes, and even pigeon houses sometimes!
And today I came across this cool idea by Wassim Melki who is proposing to start growing trees on the rooftops of Beirut’s building to compensate for the lack of green spaces in the city.
It definitely needs lot of work to be implemented, and most importantly needs commitment and support from the municipality of Beirut which is as efficient as any governmental institution in Lebanon. That unfortunately leads us to the ugly conclusion that this project will never be destined to become a reality.
You can stay up to date with the project’s news via their Facebook page.
Dear All
I Wanted to know if You Lebanese you call this a Green Beirut only implementing GREEN LANDSCAPING if yes,
This mean you all are wrong because a Green BEIRUT or a Green LEBANON is a place where :
• First where it is Environmental friendly to live
• Second where all building are Built under a really environmental project using all the waste generated from the peoples who live there to be transform into a renewable energy for Power system (electricity emergency , heating )
• Where the shit generated by this population who live there to be transform into a renewable energy (the gas comes from the human shit could be transform into power for generators and then heat exchanger )
• Where every Green Building has its own water and waste treatment system
• Where every one Every Lebanese living in Lebanon is confidante that making a good selection of all kind of waste coming from house , offices or industrial will help our country to solve a very big Economical Problem
• Where any kind of industry in our country from Abattoirs , Foods , Agricultural ( Chemical and other ) manufacturer are really force to implement in there Factory or Establishments a Recycling System for all their Waste this will help these factory to save plenty money ,
I wish if our government could be more serious in this point and follow each establishment and manufacturer to do implement a recycling system in their own facilities
Then we can say we are a Green Lebanon or a Green Beirut
I dream for a real green Lebanon
Looking forward to hear from you soon

I like Wassim’s idea of planting trees, I reject the idea of one politician monopolizing the greenery market, and turning it into another commercial project to fund his villa
