Airboards Are Now Banned at Beirut Souks

beirut souks airboard

I just came across the best news on Facebook, Beirut Souks just announced that airboards are no longer welcome at their premises.

This is so relieving because you can’t believe how annoying it has become lately after the space became infested with teenagers on airboards and their heads buried in their phones.

Ever once in a while I take my 2 year old kid to the area near the cinemas for him to ride his scooter with , and I always feel worried about some airboard hitting him so I salute Beirut Souks for their decision.

City Mall already also banned airboards but I have no idea about the policy in ABC, Le Mall and City Centre.

Barbara Walters names Amal Alamuddin as the most fascinating person for 2014

amal alamuddin

It’s funny how Barbara Walters basically picked Amala Alamuddin for nothing related to her successful career but for rather marrying George Clooney which Walters referred to as one of the greatest achievements in human history!

Walters called the wedding perfect — from Amal’s bespoke hat to the spectacular wedding dress designed by the late Oscar De La Renta.

With her marriage to Clooney, Walters says, Amal joins the ranks of Jackie Onassis, Princess Diana and Kate Middleton — everything she does, says or wears is officially… fascinating. Source

The french onion soup at Duo

duo abc

French onion soup is one of the upsides of winter for me. Most restaurants here serve it in regular soup bowls along with croutons, while few other serve it in bread bowl after scooping out the inside of it, and one of these restaurants is Duo (Downtown, Verdun, ABC Ashrafieh, and ABC Dbayeh).

I recently had Duo’s onion soup and found it pretty good. It was thick enough to my taste with the right amount of cheese on top of it, and the portion is relatively big and completely fulfilling. Totally recommended even though it’s a bit overpriced at 15,500L.L but worth the money.

Duo by the way is also quite famous for their rich salad bar priced at 22,000L.L.

Yet another flash mob at ABC Achrafieh

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), one of the most common and serious forms of arthritis, is a chronic disease, mainly characterized by inflammation of the lining, or synovium, of the joints. It can lead to long-term joint damage, resulting in chronic pain, loss of function, irreversible joint destruction and disability.
RA affects 1% of the Lebanese population according to the Lebanese Society of Rheumatology.

The 2012 awareness campaign will highlight the importance of early diagnosis by detecting signs and symptoms of the disease.

As part of the awareness campaign activities and to ensure that the campaign reaches all segments of the society, the flash mob comes as a visual message highlighting the importance of early diagnosis for people with RA so as to keep on dancing and enjoying life.

Not only did it surprise and delight the mall shoppers who witnessed the ‘live’ version, the video has also gone viral via social media.

This project is organized by IRADA, a non-profit patient support group that focuses on Rheumatoid Arthritis awareness in Lebanon. It was held at the ABC Mall, Achrafieh, and was performed by 100 talented dancers from the ‘Moves Dance Studio’.

ABC Achrafieh is now 100% smoke free

A press conference was held at ABC Achrafieh today to announce that the mall is as of today, March 1st 2012, a 100% smoke free environment except for the restaurant in Level 3 which will ban smoking on Mondays only, knowing that most of them already have a non-smoking section.

I’m not sure if the same policy will be enforced at ABC Dbayeh as well, anyway be careful next time you pull out a cigarette at ABC Achrafiyeh!

A total smoking ban at cafes and restaurant will be applied as of September 2012 by the way, and in 2 days from now (March 3rd) all kind of tobacco advertising will be illegal as well.

Update:

Turned out the smoking ban is effective at the indoor spaces only, so basically you can still walk around the mall with a lit cigarette in your hand. Now that doesn’t really make them a 100% smoke free environment right?

Possible solution for the queues at movie theaters

I bet you’ve experienced waiting in line at the popular movies theaters in Beirut especially Grand Cinemas ABC and Cinemacity City Mall. The waiting time is basically due to the fact that shows for blockbuster movie get fully booked very quickly, and so when one’s turn arrives at the box office and get surprised that there’s no more seats for M:I-4 let’s say, he’ll take at least half a minute to decide on an alternative movie to watch. And that applies for the next 10 people waiting in front of you…

Wouldn’t be better if these theaters display a small counter next to showtime listings telling the number of remaining seats for each show? It would definitely help people decide beforehand which movie to watch, and reduce the long queues at the box office.

ABC Dbayyeh expansion

Passing by Dbayeh you can’t but notice the expansion work underway at ABC. Below is a sneak peek of how the mall will look like once all is done, and you can check here for more photos.

Looks sexy to me!

New parking system at ABC Achrafieh

I went to watch TRON at ABC Achrafieh last night and was surprised to see that they have deployed a new system for their parking spaces, a system that I have been wishing for the Lebanese malls to have because of its effectiveness especially during peak times of the year.

Several boards are installed at the mall entrances to display the number of empty parking spots on each floor, and then above each spot there’s a small light to indicate whether the spot is free (Green) or occupied (Red), so you’ll directly know where to go depending on parking availability.

The system will definitely reduce the traffic problem at times where the parking gets really crowded (e.g. Saturday’s and Sunday’s). I hope the people at City Mall get jealous and install a similar one too!

I’m not sure though how will system reacts when someone occupies two parking spots, should it probably be configured to display an “Asshole” sign when it detects such thing..?

Update: According to Tarek & Mustapha, a similar system is already available at Beirut Souks.

ABC Achrafiyeh Christmas Tree

… Yep, the same one that got Sietske into trouble when she was taking a photo of it. Fortunately no guards came to forbid me from shooting the tree though one of them saw me taking a panoramic photo using my cell phone, I believe it all depends on what gear you are using!

It’s pretty cool to see, in addition to the decoration they set up on the 3rd floor.
