Here’s what happens when your marketing department feels like it’s obligatory to capitalize on every single occasion regardless if your product or service actually relate to it or not, you’re guaranteed to look silly.

Nothing gets on my nerves as much as retailers promoting kitchen appliances and household items for mother’s day as gift ideas. Let alone pointing up that mommies actually desire food processors and fryers, it’s like Abed Tahan thinks of women as housekeepers only.

For this mother’s day, ignore these ads, and do your moms a favor by keeping them away from food processors!

Beware of the scammers on Lebanese classifieds websites

A friend of mine was looking to buy a used car through Lebanese classifieds websites like Al Waseet and Bey3. Among several cars he was interested in, two were selling for a very attractive price, so he eventually started messaging their owners until he learned that they live outside Lebanon and were asking for the whole money or a down payment to be transferred through Western Union!

These people were claiming to have bought their cars while they were working in Lebanon and now that they’re back to their home countries, the cars are now up for sale.

Needless to say, their stories sounded fishy especially that once you make a Western Union transfer you can never guarantee that you will get anything in return.

So be careful if you ever came across one of these ads that sound too good to be true. For example, the $6000 car that was being discussed in the second message was actually supposed to be a 1966 Ford Mustang.

Al Rifai ads for valentine

Am I the only one who found these ads by Al Rifai humorous rather than provocative?

All hell broke loose yesterday after they were posted on Al Rifai’s page on Facebook as people started accusing them of being sexist. Some time later, Al Rifai removed these 2 visuals and posted an apology.

Al Rifai would like to point out that the Valentine visuals were not, in any way, trying to belittle the role of women in society. These visuals are part of a campaign that highlights the beauty of every nut and not our view on the role of men and women in society. We believe in equality, not only among people, but also among all our nuts ;-). We hope that you will be able to see things from our perspective.

We thank all of you who appreciated the creativity of the campaign, your support proves that it was a successful one, but in order not to offend anyone and to avoid any further misunderstandings, we have decided to remove 2 of the posted visuals. Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!

I wish someone put the same effort into convincing Spinneys to remove their valentine ads instead. They’re so lame!

See through ads!

If you have passed by Dora in the last few days then you must have noticed the new Marie France ads displayed all over the highway, there are tens of them on the road!

On my way back from work yesterday I was surprised to see each and every one of these ads ripped in the middle (right on the chest area)!

Apparently someone felt irritated of this campaign and decided to take matters into his own hands! We’re actually used to these acts from time to time in other areas where provocative ads get covered with black spray, but not in Dora.

So who could be the one this time? I doubt it’s a religious extremist group, I say it might be some feminist movement…
