Giveaway Day 5 – Superga Classic 2750 Sneakers

Today’s giveaway is presented by Superga, one of my favorite shoe brands in town. My friends there are generously providing a pair of sneakers from the Superga Classic 2750 collection (image below) and you get to choose the color you desire. Aside from their trendy designs, what I love about Superga is how comfy they are. I know this is the least you should get from a pair of sneakers but they’re seriously super comfortable. I bought a pair last year before going on a trip and they got me through full days of walking and sightseeing.

Few weeks ago they released a cool new model, the Superga Sport Lendl, in honor of the world tennis legend Ivan Lendl. The white ones have a color part of the back with Lendl’s signature in gold and I’m honestly having a hard time resisting getting one!

Anyway, to qualify for the draw, go to +961’s page on Facebook, like the giveaway post and tag your friends in a comment. A winner will be randomly chosen and announced tomorrow morning, and I will message him/her for instructions on how to claim his/her pair of sneakers.

Beautiful Shoebox Apartment in Achrafieh

Check out this cool shoebox apartment up in Achrafieh up for rent on Airbnb that recently made it to dezeen.com. While 15 sqm are barely enough space to cater for a bedroom or a living room in some modern apartments nowadays, Lebanese architect and designer Elie Metni squeezed everything a person could need into a mini apartment of the same size.

To make it feel relatively spacious, the apartment was all painted white and fitted with custom made space saving furniture including a queen size bed and folding tables to keep the 2 meters wide room as neat as possible the whole time. A kitchenette and a bathroom are also available and separated by a glass door, in addition to an outdoor roof terrace overlooking Beirut.

Practically speaking, the apartment can sleep 2 people but accommodate around 5. You can read all about it on dezeen and if interested rent it through Airbnb.

Hala Wardé Selected to Design Beirut Museum of Art

bema

Following an architectural design competition that was launched last year to build the new Beirut Museum of Modern Art, 13 designers were chosen by the jury to compete in a series of rounds and I just read on The Guardian that the Paris-based architect Hala Wardé was selected to design the new museum.

Wardé’s design comprises a 124 meters tower divided into a dozen 12 meter cubes that will house a library, several galleries, exhibition spaces, artists in residence and classes. The museum is set to open in 2020 and will be located on piece of land owned by the Saint-Joseph University opposite to National Museum in Mthaf.

The area there between Mathaf and Ras El-Nabeh is one of my favorite parts in town and the new modern art museum will definitely make it more glamorous!

Banque Libano-Française is Getting a Cool New Headquarters in Saifi

blf-magic-box

Earlier this year Banque Libano-Française launched a competition to build their new headquarters in Saifi and at the end of the selection process it was announced that Norwegian-American studio Snohetta won with their “Magic Box” design.

The design looks cool and I thought it is worth sharing since the new building will be a landmark in the area. The chequerboard-pattern facades look nice, but what stand out are definitely the plant-covered terraces carved into the roof and walls of the building.

Regarding the exact location of the project, the competition page shows it will be built on a piece of land opposite to the Lebanese Emigrant statue.

Tag Heuer’s First Arabic Digital Watch Face by Lebanese Artist Yazan Halwani

tag-heuer-connected-arabic-watch-face-1

For the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, Tag Heuer is releasing the first Arabic watch face for their Connected smart watch and commissioned Lebanese artist Yazan Halwani to create the design (link).

The design is made of abstract Arabic calligraphy formations of the statement “Time does not wait” (Al waqt la yantazer) and it won’t be hard for you to associate the design with Yazan since he’s pretty famous for using such patterns in his murals around Beirut.

I’m not gonna lie and claim that I fell in love with with the watch face because I personally prefer the watch dial to be darker, but I still liked Yazan’s design and definitely found it cool that Tag Heuer picked a Lebanese artist to do this job.

On another note, Yazan’s choice of the statement “Time does not wait” is spot on. Arabs in general and specifically us Lebanese can be better off being punctual on things like electing a president and parliament on time, and effectively managing a garbage crisis well before it happens!

Tannourine introduces new glass bottles

Just like Sohat did last summer, Tannourine are also launching their glass bottle and calling it “Via”.

I started seeing some ads of it around Beirut today and found the above TVC on YouTube.

I have no idea about Via’s price yet, but I don’t expect it to exceed that of Sohat, 2750L.L for 1L and 1750L.L for 330ml, which I believe is reasonable for those who prefer to get glass bottles on special occasions while European alternatives are more than double that price.

eezmeez.com

eezmeez graffiti

For those who don’t know about it yet, eezmeez.com is a Lebanese online t-shirt store offering cool and sarcastic designs. I got to try them earlier this month and was quite happy with the t-shirt I got.

My main concerns when it comes to buying clothing items online is how good the fabric will be, and if I’ll get my size correctly, but fortunately eezmeez got these two covered.

The overall ordering process was quite smooth and easy. Regarding the size, I had absolutely no difficulty choosing the right one thanks to their T-shirt size guide which specifies the dimensions of each size they have. And when I got the t-shirt, it turned out of a really superior quality.

The t-shirts prices start at $20 for kids and $24 for adults (for both men and women), which I believe is fair given their original designs, plus an additional $4 delivery charge if you’re in Beirut and the surroundings, or a bit more depending on how far from Beirut is your location, and it’ll take up to 7 days for your t-shirt to get delivered.

Make sure to check their collection if you would like to order one of their t-shirts. I personally got the jongar one in the above photo, which along with the other designs make a cool gift idea in my opinion.

Paint Up – Making Beirut brighter!

I’m really loving what this group of artists and designers are doing to Beirut. Equipped with colors and skills, these guys are painting staircases around the city with cool designs.

I hope their work won’t be limited to painting up staircases only, and maybe push it further to make walls brighter even.

Anyway, you can check their Facebook page here.
