Idiot of the day

This is terrible yet funny! According to LBCI,  some guy decided to fix his building’s overloaded sanitary sewer near Ballouneh last night by dumping some (too much) carbide into it, a substance that is sometimes used to make explosives, which unfortunately led to blowing up the sewer and part of the building!

I just hope no one got harmed.

iamalive iamalive1

You’re definitely aware of “I am Alive” app which helps Lebanese people let their loved ones know they’re safe by sending a tweet saying “I am still alive! #Lebanon #Latestbombing” through a single tap every time there’s an explosion.

Just two days ago, Sandra Hassan and Myra El Mir, the developers of this satiric app, released the VIP version of it intended for politicians to help them automatically issue condemnation statements when a bombing occurs!

Overwhelmed by the number of bombings in Lebanon? Can’t keep up with the demands to issue statements to the public?
Now you can easily tweet your reactions to yet another bombing in Lebanon.

No need to bother your communication crew with trying to come up with a new reaction to the security related events, heck you can just fire them all. This app does it all for you!

The responses provided for you have been designed by our team of highly specialized political analysts who have scourged over the stream of condemnations that have already been issued and synthesized the most effective and up to date reaction statements just for you.

It’s a fast and reliable tool. And what’s more; you can tag one of your friends in your tweet!

And if there’s a statement you think should be added to the repertoire, we’re waiting to hear from you. Just tweet at us @lebvip

I am Alive VIP is available for download on Google Play.

Rima Najdi roams Beirut with a mock TNT bomb

1505103_10152160884050928_2139517365_n

Inspired by how our society is getting used to bombs going off and taking the lives of dozens of innocent people every now and then, a Lebanese performance artist called Rima Najdi decided to roam the streets of Beirut with a mock TNT bomb on her.

It may sound silly to some, but if you think about it, suicide bombers and booby trapped cars have passed by the streets just like Rima did, and could have taken anyone’s life with them. It’s like we’re literally living by chance these days!

Short documentary of 1983 Beirut marine barracks bombing

On a day like this 30 years ago, a suicide bomber in a hijacked truck managed to bypass the barriers around the barracks and smashed right into the lobby of the main building before detonating his explosives.

The explosion was so big that it collapsed the building into rubble and killed 305 servicemen.

The video above is a short documentary told by two marine veterans who were serving in Beirut at that time, with footage and photos of the bombing.

Raw footage of the second explosion at Achrafieh

Here’s a raw footage from OTV showing how the second explosion happened yesterday in Achrafieh following the first big one that killed Wissam Al-Hassan. I don’t it’s due to another bomb but rather to some kind car gas tank maybe…

Thank god the people who show in the video were not much closer to the fire.

Here are some photos of the aftermath of the explosion that erupted a while ago near Sassine square in Achrafieh. I’ll try adding more photos as I get them from my twitter timeline.

Update:

As you probably all know by now, the ISF intelligence chief Wissam Al-Hassan was killed in this explosion.

Update:

You can check the BBC website and reddit for more high resolution photos.
