Don’t miss Lebanon vs. Qatar game today

Don’t miss following the world cup qualifying game between our national team and Qatar today at 4:45PM Beirut time. This is a quite important one as it can seriously increase our chance to qualify to the world cup in case we won.

If you’re wondering how will our chances be affected in case of a win or loss, here’s how figo29 put it:

I will keep things simple and put the math first, so that no one would panic in case of a loss:

  1. A win against Qatar will put Lebanon on equal terms with Korea Republic = 80% chance of going to World Cup 2014
  2. A draw will keep Lebanon at the bottom of the group = 40% chance of going to World Cup 2014
  3. A loss will change nothing = 20% chance of making it to World Cup 2014

The game will be broadcasted on Al-Jazeera sports and I guess all major news sites will be posting the important updates in realtime.

Update:

We unfortunately lost 0-1 to Qatar and we now have very little chance to advance to the world cup.

Will Julian Khazzouh play in the Lebanese basketball league?

There are some things in this country that are meant to never be understood. Things like whether sports players who have earlier played in the Israeli leagues are allowed to play in Lebanon or not.

The basketball player you see in the photo above is Julian Khazzouh, a Lebanese who was born in Australia where he played for the Sydney Kings in addition to some other Europan teams and Israel’s Ironi Ramat Gan. He also recently joined the Sagesse squad and is supposed to start playing for them starting the upcoming season.

Now you all know it was made clear last year that foreign players who previously received a work permit in Israel are not allowed to play for the Lebanese sports club.

However, Julian Khazzouh used his Australian passport to play for the Israel team, but started using the Lebanese ID he already has when he came here, and practically the law doesn’t apply to him anymore since it just mentions foreign players!

Moreover, it’s very clear for the Lebanese that traveling to Israel or dealing with Israelis is against the law, yet the Lebanese Basketball Federation is still to this moment going in discussions to decide whether Khazzouh will be given a permit to play or not! How on earth is this a hard case to solve?!

What’s even more shameful than Sagesse signing this guy is reading people like Elie Mechantaf defending him!

“We solved the issue with the Lebanese judiciary, as he [Khazzouh] played in Israel with his Australian passport,” Sagesse’s former captain and current president Elie Mchantaf said.

“[Khazzouh] has now regained Lebanese nationality and the law does not prevent him from playing here.

“We are working lawfully regarding this issue, and I assure everyone that he will be present in Sagesse’s first game of the season,” he added. Source

Lebanon – Qatar game to be played without fans!

Looks like the upcoming World Cup qualifying game between Lebanon and Qatar at Beirut Sports City is going to be played without fans. That’s what the government has announced today in fear that possible chants against Qatar might threaten the relation between the two countries!

As if banning fans from attending games between the local teams was not enough, not they’re banned from international games as well! Why do Lebanese politics have to mess up everything in this country?

Real life Pac-Man in Hamra

Pretty cool!

The classic 80’s arcade game Pac-Man found its way to the streets of Hamra. The project was the senior graphic design project of AUST arts and design department student Ahmad Makary as he took an innovative approach to better understanding urban navigation and enhancing the cognitive mapping and urban knowledge of individual travelers.

The project consisted of 10 players, 5 dressed as Pac-Man and Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde – the 4 ghosts. The 5 other players, known as path-markers, are there to mark the trail of their Player as he or she runs through the streets. As Pac-Man moves from intersection to intersection, his position is being tracked, his points calculated and updated.

According to Mac, the creator of the project: “The goal is to give people the opportunity to make the city theirs by transforming it into a huge playground and harnessing the knowledge of its spatial elements. The choice was to focus on the social aspect of the game rather than the technological aspect: there is no use of any technological aid (GPS, Chats, Cell phones) each player has a partner running along his side, this allows more team play and an enhanced experience.” Source

Crest made me smile

Remember the banner I displayed a while ago for Crest’s competition “Spread the Smile”? It wasn’t a paid ad, but I was actually taking part in a “competition” organized by Leo Burnett among some other Lebanese bloggers to drive  as much traffic as we can to Crest’s page on Facebook, with prizes for the top 3 blogs sending traffic, and yours truly got the iPad 2 above for ranking among the top 3 blogs.
