I Can’t Believe MTV is Going This Low #el3ama3alMTV

I didn’t feel like I really have to comment on the MTV video that was making rounds on social media website because enough was already being said by the people, and I simply couldn’t have said it better than the video published by El 3ama which garnered hundreds of thousands of views.

The video is unfortunately no more available to view because it was apparently too hard for MTV to digest so they reported it to both Facebook and YouTube for copyright claims, and el3ama’s page on Facebook got consequently suspended for 3 days.

I think it is really a shame for such TV station that has already suffered from censorship by the authorities in the early 2000s when it was shut down for several years to actually do the same with a satirist such as Ghayd Chammas. And it isn’t like what he stated in his video was… MTV and other stations are all delivering very bad content most of the time, they all try to use the sex appeal to attract viewers, and their online presence with their clickbait articles is a complete disaster.

What MTV showed is that is that they are no better than the General Security who censor movies that eventually end up flooding DVD shops around the country. Regardless whether Ghayd is right or wrong in his claims, it is about time for everyone to understand that freedom of speech is a sacred right and fortunately for us there are tens of other websites to publish such content, and I guarantee you will see the video re-uploaded somewhere else with possibly double the views. They could’ve simply let it go but they’re giving it more exposure now that they want it to be taken offline!

Casino Du Liban Documentary by George Ghanem

We’re definitely lucky to have somebody like George Ghanem producing documentaries about the recent history of Lebanon for our generation. He has so far produced and contributed in several good documentaries about Lebanon and remarkable Lebanese politicians such as Koullouna Lil Watan, Zaman Rafic Al Hariri, Lady of the Palace and others.

His most recent work deals with Casino Du Liban and it aired last weekend on MTV in two episodes. Just like Ghanem’s previous documentaries this one was also quite enjoyable as it introduced us to how the casino was established and quickly became a point of attraction until the Lebanese civil war intensified which eventually led to closing it down in 1989 and then reopening it later in 1996. The documentary also of cited the challenges that faced every appointed general manager due to political interference.

I highly recommend you check it out if you missed it on TV. The two episodes are available on MTV Lebanon website in HD.

Calm Your Tits: Alcohol Prices Are Not Icreasing by 5 Times

Following MTV’s report about the suggested increase on tax for alcoholic products, people are for some reason believing that bottle prices are going to increase by 5 times, whereas if you listen well to the reporter then you will notice that it is actually the tax per 1 liter that is going to quintuple.

Take a 15,000L.L wine bottle (750ml) for example, once the decision takes effect it should cost 15,600L.L. Therefore, unless restaurants and bars want to take this as an excuse to tremendously increase their prices, your bill should not be impacted much especially if you are ordering by the glass.

So calm your tits, bars will not go bankrupt and you will still be able to afford your favorite drinks.

Bachir Gemayel The Series

FB_IMG_1472632228311

Bachir Gemayel is probably the most controversial Lebanese figure of our modern history whose personality was admired by his allies and opponents alike, and for the 34th commemoration of his assassination MTV Lebanon is showing a 5-episode documentary about him.

I personally have always felt curious to watch segments about Bachir’s short political life and rise to power, and there are several available documentaries on YouTube about that matter, but I believe this one is a must watch for those interested in our recent history because it was prepared by George Ghanem who already provided several great documentaries about Lebanese political parties and figures during his days at LBC. Moreover, the used material was provided by Bachir Gemayel Foundation and includes footage and speeches that were never shown before.

The episodes are being aired every Tuesday at 8:45PM with 2 episodes already out, and you can also watch them online here on MTV’s website.

Pamela El-Kik Would Make a Good Translator

pamela el kik vs charlie chaplin

Pamela El Kik delivered a speech when she appeared on Menna W Jerr three days ago to express how desperate is the political situation in Lebanon, but little did everybody know that her “moving” speech was nothing but a word by word translation of The Great Dictator’s final speech by Sir Charlie Chaplin without crediting him.

You can check the two videos below which are currently being extensively shared on Facebook and see for yourself.

Earlier in February, the Menna w Jerr team thoroughly discussed in the below segment how Rudolph Hilal ripped off The Ellen Show and how it shouldn’t have gone unnoticed by the staff at LBCI. I guess the same thing now applies to them, so it would really be interesting to see what are they going to say about it.

Update:

MTV Staff contacted me shortly after publishing the post to let me know that Pamela did in fact explain to Pierre Rabbat during the show that she was inspired by Charlie Chaplin, but the conversation was unfortunately edited out in order to keep the episode within its time limit which is quite absurd. They claimed that this segment will be uploaded tomorrow morning to make it clear to the people, and I will of course be adding it to the post here.

Pamela herself also explained the situation on her Facebook account.

Update 2:

Here’s a link to the original uncut segment.

Video of The Jounieh Fireworks Show Last Night

IMG_9675.PNG

Jounieh International Festival took off last night with a 7 minute synchronized fireworks show along the coast. Not much people have yet shared the videos they took so here’s one from MTV Lebanon.

I don’t want to sound like a party pooper as I know many people found the show to be pretty cool, but I personally can’t but say it was no more than a repetition from the last two years. I mean I totally salute the municipality of Jounieh for their efforts, but I don’t think they’re being super creative with the awesome bay they have. I bet much more can be done along the coast especially that Dubai always manages to amaze the world with their yearly show and they only use one Burj Khalifa to do it.
