Beirut Spring Festival – The fifth edition

The Beirut Spring Festival was created in 2009 by the Samir Kassir Foundation to commemorate his assassination, and was inspired by one of the last articles written by him.

This year’s version of te festival starts on May 26th and will last for five days, featuring several artisits at different venues around Beirut, and below is the festival program.

May 26: Tania Saleh in concert at Samir Kassir square
May 27/28: Scorched by Wajdi Mouawad at Al Madina theater
May 29: Corss encounter with Wajdi Mouawad and Paul Chaoul at Bank Audi headquarters in Downtown
May 29: The Sentinel at The Roman Baths in Downtown
May 30/31: Alone at Monnot theater

Samir Kassir Award open to Israeli journalists

The issue has been raised on the Tayyar.org website two days ago. As you can see in the snapshot below taken from the regulations page, Samir Kassir’s contest is open to journalists in several countries including Israel!

I have no idea what journalists from Israel have to do with this contest, and I am surprised that until today those who are responsible of it still have not fixed it or even provided an explanation. Oh and please don’t blame it on a copy paste mistake!

Fete de la musique 2009 Photos

As I posted earlier, La Fete De La Musique was set on Sunday June 21st. I didn’t attend the event in its previous versions, so this was my first time, and I’m definitely going again next year!

I went to Gemmayze, Downtown, Samir Kassir, and finally ended it Hamra. The whole experience was really great, no matter what your music choice is, you could have enjoyed it at one of the set places. I was mostly excited to see Machrou’ Leila playing in Downtown but for some reason I missed it!

Anyway, I’ll leave you with some of the photos I took during the evening, they’re all clickable.

Gemmayze

I got to Gemmayze at around 8:30PM, they were playing nice old Arabic music.

Downtown

Moving to The Martyr’s square, in the photos below you can see a band named “Ashekman” (echappement), made up of a twin of brothers, it was all about rap and hip hop there.

Samir Kassir

I really don’t know what kind of music was playing at Samir Kassir statue, but it was really nice! It was too crowded there for me to get a nice photo, all I got is this!

Hamra

Hamra street was for alternative rock lovers, I watched two bands and the music was once again, nice!
