BBC Pop Up – Lebanon: Pimps, Prostitutes and Refugees

Here’s BBC Pop Up latest video from Lebanon. In this one, Benjamin Zand basically explores our red light districts. And just like he did with his video about drugs in Lebanon, he met with some local pimp who explained all about his “business” including lawfully locking up the women who work for him… and he interviewed some Syrian refugees who unfortunately had to turn to prostitution to survive.

As you know, following their previous video about Hachich production in Bekaa, the security forces raided the homes of some of the biggest dealers in that region (but failed to arrest them), which makes me wonder if the same thing is going to happen with this pimp now…

Cat Kicker John Saad Gets a Dose of El 3ama!

You probably have all seen those aweful videos of a guy called John Saad kicking cats just for the fun of it. And it’s quite frustrating that there’s little to be done with such people in the absence of a law that ctiminalizes these acts.

But in the age of social media, viral videos naming and shaming such dumb fucks can sometimes do justice to the poor animals. Case in point, El 3ama’s comment about it!

Kicking a cat??? really??!!!

Hayda el video Fashit Khele2 la elna kelna.

Add to that Google’s power to quickly index webpages mentioning John Saad’s name, and BAM! you’re guaranteed visits from potential employer googling the name of John Saad (oops just mentioned it again) for background checking, only for them to find out that *wait for it* John Saad is a cat kicker! 😉

Wissam Kamal’s Datsun Ad – A Total Win!

I saw the new Datsun ad featuring Wissam Kamal and his father a couple of days ago and totally loved it! Knowing that Datsun was phased out in 1986 before launching again in 2013, they totally nailed it with their reference to the 80s.

On another note, I think it’s cool to see brands collaborating this way with people who got famous through social media such as Wissam. Kudos to that!

Celebrate Talents Instead of Making Stupid People Famous!

Bimbos and attention whores never fail to make an occasion pass without trying to garner followers and likes on their social media platforms, and for Christmas time, it was of course mandatory to pose in skimpy red outfits because you know… there’s no other way to celebrate such occasion!

However, and despite the fact that everybody talk negatively about these SM figures, you keep seeing their followers count constantly increasing due to all the publicity they get on social network and especially Facebook. It’s like people follow their pages to just see how bad the next videos/photos will be, which motivate page owners to fart more content and the whole thing eventually gets other bimbos to get jealous, create pages, and do the same!

Unfortunately, the biggest losers out of this become the talented artists who produce really good content but fail to get the exposure they deserve because people are too busy monitoring Rola Yammout’s activity on instagram!

Sevine and Azizat Beyrouth are the best examples of talents that are not getting the attention they really deserve, and my latest discovery today was a girl called “Carla Chamoun” who has a beautiful voice and some cool videos on One:Sixteen’s Facebook page, yet for some reason the number of view she gets is incomparable to that of other silly videos..!

Here are a couple of my favorite videos of her.

And what better way to wish you a merry Christmas than with this medley!

A Christmas Medley by Carla

Now you can “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” from the guys at One:Sixteen and Carla.

The likes of Carla, Sevine, and Azizat Beyrouth are the ones who deserve the serious exposure. I know it’s impossible to keep people from following the lives of star wannabes, but just try to make better decisions about the stuff that should be spread out on social networks.

Amazon Prime Video Now Available In Lebanon

Following the steps of Netflix, Amazon just widened the availability of its prime video service, making it available in more than 200 countries, Lebanon included.

If you like shows like The Grand Tour, you can now stream it from the comfort of your living room at just $2.99/month. Unless, you know, you are living in Lebanon and got a shitty internet connection, then you can disregard this story all together. Thank you very much!

OTV Prank Show Hits A New Low

haddeh-albak

Lebanese TV stations produce all sorts of bad shows, but OTV proved hands down that it can easily outperform all other channels!

I just learned today about their “Haddeh Albak” prank show featuring a psycho man who pulls the silliest jokes on people and tries to make it exciting by threatening their life in the process. In one of last month’s episodes he literally humiliated a poor Syrian guy by stopping him in the middle of a Kart circuit and stripping him to his underwear. He then put a flag in his boxer and made him run around aimlessly.

I can write on and on about how fucked up that prank was, but instead I will just point a simple fact to show what a failure OTV and that silly show are. The episode has been online on YouTube for around 1 month now (October 22nd), yet people didn’t react against it until yesterday, this goes to show how little viewership they have among other stations… Similar outrageous segments from other TVs usually become the talk of the town on the very next day, but this one had to wait a whole month for people to even notice it! If this is not a clear indicator of how pathetic their productions are, then I don’t know what is!

Anyway I hope their management realizes how wrong that prank was and cancels the show altogether.

Lebanon is Calling – DEMCO Properties Ad on CNN is Spot On!

demco-properties-lebanon-is-calling

Following the election of a new president in Lebanon after 2 and half years of vacuum, the general mood among the politicians and people alike has been turning positive with hopes of a stable and flourishing future ahead, and this beautiful ad by DEMCO Properties that was showing every 30 minutes on CNN during their coverage of the presidential elections really nails it at restoring the Lebanese expats’ faith in their country.

The ad shows some accomplished Lebanese businessman in NYC getting an emotional call from his homeland (literally) to tell him that Lebanon is back again on his feet and needs his support to accomplish more and eventually secure a stable future.

Needless to say, the ad encourages Lebanese expats to never lose faith in their country and contribute in its recovery by investing more in it, however the most important message this is conveying is to remain positive (who would have guessed 1 month ago that we will elect a president on October 31st?!), I mean even if some expats don’t have some spare money to invest in Lebanon, watching this ad is enough to give them a warm feeling and an extra push to achieve more!

Stunning Silent Mini Documentary of Beirut in 1921

beirut-1921

I’m a sucker for old photos and videos of Beirut and the below two videos I found on medmem.eu are an absolute gem!

The videos are both silent and were taken in 1921 during the French mandate. The first part shows several areas of Beirut like Saint George, Raouche, and The Grand Serail with brief descriptions in between the different scenes. It was quite interesting to learn from that part that a french aviation line used to connect Lebanon to Europe back then  through seaplanes.

beirut-1921-1

On the other hand, the second part focuses on education institutions at that time with scenes showing USJ univerity and Hotel Dieu hospital among others institutes. Towards the end of it you can also see the Patriarch during that time Elias Peter Hoayek sitting between some officials at College du Sacre-Coeur.

I will be searching to check if there are other related video to this documentary and will definitely be sharing them if I found any.

5 Songs That Brought Music in Lebanon to an All Time Low This Summer

rima-dib

If we’re gonna remember this summer for something other than the garbage scattered everywhere around the country, then it’s definitely for the low quality music that was produced for celebrity wannabes to get their 5 minutes of fame.

Here’s a quick list I compiled from what I have lately seen on YouTube. I’m pretty sure there’s more but I think 5 are enough to avoid any damage for your eyes and ears.

1- Tarek Al-Atrash – Merzabbi

What does Merzabbi mean? And why did somebody feel the urge to write a song about it?

2. Rola Yamout – Ana Rola

I honestly never paid attention to the music. This is actually the kind of videos that help you identify whether you are an ass or boobs man.

3. Rima Dib – Ya Wad Ya T2il

Nothing. Zero. Cero. Null.

4. Myriam Klink – Baddi Walle3 Albak Nar

Falls in the same category as #2. It can also be used during self loving time as well… you know self loving… w heik.

5. Hadi Azrak – Jenno Notto

Tirachrach is so 2011! No wedding was complete this season without this one playing at least once during the party.
